What you will learn

University of Colorado Denver’s Leadership for Learning Design and Technology certificate program is designed for professionals in K-12 settings, higher education settings, and adult workplace settings (corporate, community, government) who are either already in technology-focused leadership roles and wish to enhance their practice or those wishing to pursue leadership opportunities to improve teaching and learning with the use of digital media and technology. 

In this certificate program you will: 

  • Adopt a critical stance toward your work, promoting effective practice and responsible use of technology.  
  • Advocate for equitable access to educational technology, digital content and learning opportunities to meet the diverse needs of all learners. 
  • Model for colleagues the identification, exploration, evaluation, curation and adoption of new digital resources and tools for learning. 
  • Manage projects, people, and resources in carrying out design and pedagogical work. 
  • Contribute to professional learning networks as a collaborator, co-creator, and thought leader and partner. 

This 12-credit certificate program has rolling admissions, so you may start the program in the Fall, Spring, or Summer term.

You will complete the following courses:

Required course:

  • INTE 6750: Trends and Issues in Learning Design and Technology (3 credits)

Select TWO elective courses:

  • INTE 7100: Professional Learning and Technology (3 credits)
  • INTE 7110: Mentoring, Coaching and Training (3 credits)
  • INTE 5010: Humanizing Learning Design (3 credits)
  • INTE 6160: Project Management for Instructional Design (3 credits)

Select ONE Capstone course:

  • INTE 6840 Certificate-based Practicum (3 credits)
  • INTE 6930 Student Agency / Internship
  • An elective course from the above list (3 credits)

Through these courses you will have the opportunity to imagine your own outcomes according to your desired career paths and/or your areas of work or research. By following a curriculum plan that moves from foundations to application to practicum, you will invest in a specific, personalized outcome which you can trace from the start of their study to its end. To facilitate this, you’ll:

  1. Initiate your study with foundations in critical digital pedagogy and literacies.
  2. Collaborate with your faculty mentor/advisor to establish a goal for your culminating work.
  3. Continue your study with the appropriate application course.
  4. Culminate the work of the certificate by completing a practicum project, which will be reviewed by your faculty mentor as well as the instructor for your practicum course.
