Master of Arts in Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Education
Degree Earned: MA Classroom Type: Fully Online Develops the knowledge, leadership skills, and classroom practices that support multilingual learners and their families. Graduates help meet the increasing need for knowledge and skills to design effective practices to serve the number of children who speak and learn in multiple languages. Degree Earned: MA Endorsement Classroom Type: Fully Online Prepares educators to become advocates for multilingual learners in school districts by exploring the opportunities and challenges among Latinx students. Graduates help meet the need for leadership in Colorado and nationwide as the Latinx population grows and the achievement gap for students widens. Degree Earned: Graduate Certificate Classroom Type: Fully Online Provides content-area teachers (math, science, social studies, etc.) with a foundation of teaching content for multilingual students. The certificate is also valuable to content-area coaches or administrators with a commitment to diversity and social justice, and who provide support for teachers with multilingual learners in K - 12 classrooms. Sofía Chaparro, PhD
Feb 11, 2026With colleague Kathryn Schamu, EdD, and doctoral student Elena Bacmeister, Sofía Chaparro, PhD, published an article on the equity commitments of teachers and school leaders of a bilingual Montessori school in a gentrifying community. The article is published in the open access journal Frontiers in Education.
Christopher Carson
Apr 28, 2026Chris Carson collaborated with colleagues from around the country through the Teaching and Learning Coalition for Multilingual Education (TLC4ME) consortium to examine 50 years of education research dating back to the landmark 1974 supreme court decision, Lau v. Nichols. He presented these findings at the American Association of Applied Linguistics, and co-led two state local workshop presentations with CU Denver doctoral candidate Amie Ha. Look for the upcoming review in Review of Research in Education (forthcoming).
Adriana Alvarez, PhD
Apr 28, 2026Adriana Alvarez, PhD, presented her research and installation at the American Anthropological Association Annual Meeting in New Orleans and received a fellowship with the social justice/art organization Farm Cultural Park in Sicily, Italy as part of the project What Remains.
