Are you planning on teaching after graduation? The School of Education & Human Development (SEHD) will now enable undergraduates to get a jumpstart on their teaching careers. When you join CU Denver’s Teacher Education minor, you gain access to a 4+1 program that helps you earn a degree in your current major, a Master’s in Teaching, and a Colorado Teaching License in five years.

What you’ll learn 

The minor in Teacher Education purposefully integrates fieldwork and coursework. It is designed to grow your teaching skills and knowledge to serve all students’ learning. 

This minor pairs nicely with a range of CLAS majors including Biology, Communication, English, Environmental Science, Ethnic Studies, French, Geography, History, Mathematics, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology, and Spanish. The minor can also work well with other majors depending on your career goals. Please speak with your academic advisor to see if this minor is a good fit for you.  

Minor Requirements

  • Of the required courses, at least 9 credits must be completed at the University of Colorado Denver.
  • Transfer courses must be approved by faculty to apply to the minor.
  • Students may sign up for the minor as early as sophomore year. Minor courses are taken during the undergraduate program. Declare the minor by meeting with the designated SEHD Advisor.
  • Please meet with an undergraduate advisor in SEHD early on to see if your major is aligned to the teaching license you are seeking.

Details about the 4 + 1

  • Apply to the MAT (Master of Arts in Teaching) the semester before you graduate with your undergraduate degree
  • Graduate with your undergraduate degree
  • Once admitted to the MAT, complete your courses within 12-18 months, depending on your chosen track. These make you eligible to apply for the Colorado teaching license
