Numerous certificates are available that are transferable to a degree program. Most certificates are 9-12 graduate-level credits and are open to educators with a bachelor's degree. Some certificates may only be available to teachers in particular districts or CU Denver master's students in certain degree programs as noted. The Digital Teacher Librarian certificate at the University of Colorado Denver prepares educators and library professionals to design, lead, and sustain contemporary school library and media programs that inspire reading, inquiry, and digital literacy. Coursework integrates digital literacy, media literacy, information literacy, and school library leadership, grounded in research-based practice and equity-centered design.

CU Denver’s Digital Teacher Librarian certificate prepares educators who are not endorsed as a certified school librarian with the knowledge and skills necessary to establish an inclusive learning community that ensures students have the ability to find, evaluate, create, and communicate information. This certificate is aligned with the Colorado State Library's competencies for highly effective school library programs.

How to Apply:

Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited higher education institution. Faculty advising support is available for all applicants including non-Colorado and international applicants. 

Tuition information:

If you are not a resident of the state of Colorado and are only taking online courses as a certificate or non-degree student, your tuition will be billed at the non-resident rate. Find details here.

Transcription

The certificate will appear on the student's transcript upon successful completion of the course unless the student is already enrolled in an SEHD degree program. If a student is currently enrolled in an SEHD degree program and is taking certificate courses, the certificate will appear on the student's transcript if no more than 3 credit hours are used to meet degree requirements. Our nationally and internationally recognized certificates are exceptions to this policy, this includes the certificate for Applied Behavior Analysis.

Students must have a grade of C or better in all classes applied toward their certificate and a cumulative GPA of 3.0 (B average) or higher for the certificate to be transcribed. Particular district-related certificates require a grade of B or better for certificate transcription. In some cases, courses with a grade of C may not count toward a master's degree, depending on specific degree program requirements.
