The Collaborative at CU Denver

Developing Equity Leaders for Organizational Change

The Collaborative at CU Denver enables higher education leaders and teams an opportunity to develop their leadership, communication, and organizational change skills through a custom approach.

Leaders engage in a personal and professional journey toward collaborative leadership understanding, implementation and evaluation. Coupled with Organizational Change Management Theory, the Collaborative Leadership Model will be used as the underpinning for the efforts. Each leadership team will be assigned a mentor with specific expertise that best aligns with the demographics of the institution, team, and proposed outcomes.

Over the course of an academic year, leadership teams will attend workshops to cover a variety of key topics of organizational importance. Each area was specifically chosen because it is vital to the history and future of higher education and is often seen as an individual role. Collaboration in leadership promotes colleague engagement that advances leadership and organizational aspirations, priorities, and goals (Ruben, 2023).

Governance and Government Relations

Understanding the role of faculty, staff, and students is key to the matriculation and persistence of all parties. As higher education is more politicized, it is imperative that administrators create sound policy and establish relationships with government partners.

Security and Operations

The world is global, and campuses are as well, but many don’t understand the impact of a snow day, a community death, cyber-attack or other day to day instances on campus. This tenet will emphasize the impact of the operations of the university and beyond.

Financial Management

The university needs to be fiscally healthy to continue to serve students and meet strategic goals. Utilizing content experts, each team will examine their institution’s financial wellness and implement best practices alongside a fiscal coach.

Fundraising and Strategic Partnership

Employing cutting-edge fundraising techniques is currently critical for institutional success. Our experts will suggest new ways to pursue strategic partnerships and corporate funding that support high quality education endeavors and increase student access to innovative programs that shape their college experience.

Collaborative Leadership

This theoretical framework is the underpinning of The Collaborative. Your journey through this process will involve implementation of sustainable and fair practices to enhance the morale and retention of faculty, staff, and administration.

Purpose of HESELC (The Collaborative)

The purpose of The Collaborative is to aid executive team members in creating a comprehensive, sustainable plan that will optimize democratic decision making, minimize siloed thinking, and ultimately lead to organizational change. Each team will be assigned a coach whose expertise will align with and complement the respective institutions’ strategic goals and demographics. The Collaborative Leadership Plan will be designed to accompany the institutional Strategic Plan and serve to enhance the overall mission of the organization.
