Mentoring

T-PREP: The Partnership for Rural Educator Preparation

T-PREP collaborates with rural districts to build the capacity of teacher leaders to take on the role of mentors for teacher candidates and first year novice teachers.

In 2011 T-PREP created Mentoring Pre-Service and Novice Teachers training to equip experienced teachers and school leaders with research-based knowledge and skills for their role as mentors to the new teachers. The content of the training is aligned with teacher quality standards and Colorado performance-based standards. The training is offered in online, hybrid and face-to face formats which are organized under the following three guided experiences that must be completed sequentially:

  • The Role of the Mentor
  • Shifting Responsibilities
  • Retaining Teacher Talent

All three guided experiences include research-based readings, activities, reflections, assignments and built-in assessments. All modules are facilitated by a content expert which allows mentors to receive ongoing feedback and guidance.

Since 2011 a total of 92 mentors have been trained in the following 50 rural districts.
