ASPIRE to Teach® - Alternative Teacher Licensure

• CDE Alt Teacher Overview
• A CDE teaching license issued to eligible teachers
• Colorado teachers are eligible for a CDE alternative license if they:
  • Have not previously completed a teacher preparation program*
  • Hold a teacher of record position (in a CDE eligible endorsement area) 
  • Enroll in an alternative preparation program
• A teacher's alternative license is valid for the duration of their alternative preparation program.
• Alternative preparation program completers are eligible to advance their alternative license to a Colorado initial teaching license.

*Current licensed teachers may add a Special Education endorsement

ASPIRE Alternative Licensure candidate: 

• Teacher of record position in a CDE eligible endorsement area
• Content competency in a CDE eligible endorsement area
• Click on CDE worksheet(s) for endorsement requirements

ASPIRE Interim Authorization candidate (after July 1): 

• Teacher of record position in a CDE eligible endorsement area
• NO content competency in a CDE eligible endorsement area
• Non-passing PRAXIS scores
• PRAXIS exam scheduled within 2 weeks of ASPIRE application
