I am an Associate Professor in the School of Education and Human Development (SEHD). My academic home is Learning Design and Technology (LDT). As an educator, I create inclusive learning opportunities that help students gain the knowledge, skills, and dispositions needed to be active and contributing members of their professional communities of practice. I strive to design learning opportunities for students that support their professional growth and empower them to achieve their professional and personal goals. For my origin story, please see this video in which I describe a transformative learning experience.

Research
My research focuses on (a) developing prescriptive sociocultural design and teaching frameworks that support student learning, engagement, and success in postsecondary educational settings and (b) exploring how sociocultural teaching and instructional approaches and strategies effectively influence, enhance, and support students’ learning, engagement, and performance in postsecondary settings. I work to develop scholarly knowledge about teaching and learning that has significance and impact for my institution and my community of practice. I want my work to empower educators (including myself) to design learning opportunities, experiences, and environments that enhance student opportunities and outcomes and prepare them for their professions. This is especially important as institutions of higher education seek to be inclusive and accessible to a wide and diverse learning audience.
