George Panayiotou EdD

Senior Instructor
  • School of Education & Human Development

I teach and conduct research in the Leadership for Educational Organizations (LEO) graduate program, where I lead courses in the principal licensure and EdD programs. In addition, I advise doctoral candidates researching topics related to organizational change, school leadership, and effectiveness, supporting their work in both qualitative and quantitative methodologies.

My research focuses on the intersection of organizational change and leadership, with an emphasis on leadership development and training. I am particularly interested in how educational leaders navigate polarized environments, balancing complex stakeholder demands and making effective decisions amid contentious issues. This focus has informed my research and presentations at national and international conferences, where I have explored topics such as social and emotional learning in leadership, effective decision-making during polarization, and leadership responses to stakeholder backlash.

I am also interested in action research at the intersection of corporate and educational contexts, focusing on the development of evidence-based frameworks applicable to both business and school leaders. By examining the distinct paradigms of corporate and educational leadership, I aim to deepen our understanding of leadership by exploring the connections between these sectors and how they can inform one another.

Prior to academia, my professional background spanned both education and business. I spent a decade as a teacher and school leader across the UK, followed by another decade in the corporate sector as a commodities trader, broker, and market analyst.
