Liz Mahon joined the faculty of Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Education in the School of Education & Human Development in 2011. Liz was born and lived in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia for 18 years, so early on developed a passion for the world of culturally and linguistically diverse education. Prior to coming to CU Denver, Liz was a school counselor/psychologist and English Language Development teacher in public schools in Colorado and North Carolina for 20 years. As a clinical professor, Liz spends time in k-12 classrooms, supporting teachers as they create rich learning environments for multilingual learners. Liz presents locally and nationally on infusing a cultural and multilingual lens into content area instruction through the use of translanguaging, language play and culturally sustaining curriculum.
Liz’s hobbies include traveling, biking, boating, yoga, reading, cooking, and gardening.
