Unlocking Accessibility: Designing Inclusive Digital Documents and Communications

with Rosanna Miiller-Salas

In this hands-on workshop, educators will learn practical strategies for creating accessible digital materials and communications that support all learners. Through interactive activities, collaborative challenges, and gamified experiences, such as an accessibility escape room, participants will explore how to design accessible documents, presentations, emails, LMS content, and visual materials using tools they already use every day. Participants will leave with templates, checklists, and ready-to-use strategies aligned with Universal Design for Learning.

Digital accessibility unlocks learning for everyone—students with disabilities, multilingual learners, and anyone navigating course materials on different devices or with assistive technologies. This dynamic, hands‑on workshop empowers educators to design accessible documents, presentations, communications, and course content using the tools they already rely on every day, including Word, Google Docs, PowerPoint, Keynote, Canva, Adobe Express, email platforms, and learning management systems.

Through engaging, collaborative activities—like persona explorations, accessibility bingo, scavenger challenges, and a digital accessibility escape room—participants will experience inclusion from the learner’s perspective while building immediately applicable skills. Educators will leave with ready-to-use templates, practical checklists, and proven strategies to create more inclusive, user-friendly digital environments for every student.
