Don’t Miss the Teacher Leader Summit this June
Julia Cummings | School of Education and Human Development Apr 8, 2025
The School of Education & Human Development will host teacher teachers, instructional coaches, principals, curriculum directors, and other instructional leaders from around the state and nation during its inaugural Teacher Leader Summit, June 5 - 6, 2025, at the University of Colorado Denver campus. This year, participants and school teams will dive into the theme “Instructional Design for Deeper Learning and Student Engagement in an AI Era” and engage in hands-on experiences that build their expertise around this topic.
“School leaders are encouraged to utilize this fantastic opportunity to build leadership capacity in their teachers while simultaneously developing skills to increase cognitive rigor and authentic student engagement," said Dr. Jody Tucker, associate director of clinical education in SEHD and lead planner of the summit.
The main facilitator for the summit is Dr. Scott McLeod, professor of Educational Leadership at CU Denver and the Founding Director of the UCEA Center for the Advanced Study of Technology Leadership in Education (CASTLE), the first university center in the U.S. focused on leadership, deeper learning, technology, and innovation. McLeod has worked with hundreds of schools, districts, universities, and other organizations and has received numerous awards for his work. He hosts two podcasts, LeaderTalk and Redesigning for Deeper Learning, has written or edited four books and 170 articles and other publications, and is one of the most visible education professors in the United States.
“It’s going to be an amazing couple of days together. We’re going to dive into both the opportunities and necessary guardrails for teaching with AI on Day 1. Then on Day 2 we’re going to lean into our humanity and design powerful learning experiences that students find meaningful and relevant,” said McLeod.
Other keynote speakers include: Geeta Verma, founder of LivedX and faculty member in SEHD; Gerardo A. Muñoz, manager of learning and development for Denver Public Schools and 2022 Colorado Teacher of the Year; Esther Valdez, assistant director of implementation and partnership for CEI; Monica Moreno-Martinez, site professor and instructor for CU Denver’s Pathways2Teaching program; and, Jody Tucker, associate director of clinical teacher education in SEHD.
The cost is $650 per individual or $1300 per school/district team with two to four individuals.
