The University of Colorado Denver’s School of Education & Human Development (SEHD) has moved up in the 2026 U.S. News & World Report graduate school rankings, continuing its upward trajectory among the nation’s top education schools. The recognition reflects SEHD’s ongoing strength in preparing educators, leaders, and professionals who serve communities across Colorado and beyond.
According to the latest U.S. News & World Report Best Graduate Schools rankings, graduate education programs at CU Denver rank among the top two in Colorado and in the top 84 nationally, an increase of six spots from last year. Education schools across the University of Colorado system continue to lead statewide, with CU Denver earning a strong second-place ranking and CU Boulder named first, underscoring the system’s collective impact on educator preparation and educational research.
SEHD’s graduate offerings play a central role in that success. As the largest graduate school of education in Colorado, SEHD offers master’s degrees with or without additional endorsements for future and practicing educators. These programs provide specialized preparation in areas such as leadership, literacy education, STEM education, special education, and multilingual learner support, with some programs offered in partnership with school districts. Graduates frequently step into expanded leadership roles within their schools and communities.
Marvin Lynn, PhD, dean of the school, said the rankings reflect SEHD’s commitment to inclusive excellence and meaningful impact. “At a university where half of the students are first-generation, we prepare teachers and leaders who improve lives and expand opportunities for the next generation of diverse learners. Drawing on leading research and professional practice from around the world, SEHD faculty members prepare effective educators and leaders across multiple settings, and community and mental health professionals who strengthen schools and communities across Colorado.”
CU Denver is #1 in Colorado for graduate public affairs and management disciplines, with multiple nationally ranked graduate programs across business, education, engineering, health, and sciences.
