Intro to Design Thinking

How might we empower ourselves and our students to be creative problem solvers both inside and outside of the classroom? Design thinking is a human-centered process that encourages innovation and creative problem solving.

Our facilitator is Jodi Garner; a STEM coordinator and instructional coach in the St. Vrain Valley School District. Before moving to Colorado, Jodi taught in Title 1 schools in rural Illinois and West Virginia. She is interested in human-centered design, maker education and serving students farthest from opportunity. Outside of school, Jodi can be found working on never-ending house remodeling projects and enjoying life with her husband and her dog.

In this session, participants will:

  • Construct an understanding of the design thinking process
  • Prototype a solution for a current problem of practice
  • Gain resources to support classroom implementation
  • Plan a standards-based design challenge to utilize with students.
